Mexico City

As the previous capital of the Mayan empire, one of its most famous sites is the Templo Mayor, a thirteenth century Aztec temple. Others include the baroque Catedral Metropolitana de México and the Palacio Nacional, which houses historic murals by Diego Rivera. All of these are situated in and around the Plaza de la Constitución, the massive main square also known as the Zócalo.

Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a stroll through the buzzing downtown area reveals the capital's history from pre-Hispanic to its colonial heritage and its more recent innovative, contemporary edge.

There are many places offering inspired dining as well as local fare and world class hotels and restaurants abound. Much safer now than in the past the city has a lot to offer but precautions should be taken as is the case with most major cities.

Palacio de Bella Artes – Iconic Palace home to art exhibitions of world-famous Mexican artists and the Bellas Artes theater.

Bosque Chapultapec – Mexico City’s largest park, extending over 4 km square with many lakes, museums and home to both the former imperial palace, the Castillo de Chapultepec and presidential residence, Los Pinos, now turned into a museum.

Museo Frida Kahlo – Visit the Casa Azul (Blue House) were the famous artist Frida Kahlo was born, lived and died.

Ciclovia – Free Sunday Bike Rides – Every Sunday from 8am to 2pm cyclists and pedestrians enjoy the 55km of car-free roads. You can borrow bikes and rollerblades for free for two hours at a time from ‘préstamos’ found along the route but these are on a first come first serve basis, so make sure to arrive early! If you miss out there you can find all different times of bikes at the Poray Bikes rental store- conveniently located on Paseo de la Reforma.
