We head to the expansive grass arena of Mexico City’s Campo Marte for the third stage of the thrilling 2024 season.
México City is the capital of México and is one of the world’s highest altitude cities at 2,250 metres above sea level. The current city was established by Spanish Conquistadors in the early 1500’s. Densely populated it is known for its history, art and unique culture.
As the previous capital of the Mayan empire, one of its most famous sites is the Templo Mayor, a thirteenth century Aztec temple. Others include the baroque Catedral Metropolitana de México and the Palacio Nacional, which houses historic murals by Diego Rivera. All of these are situated in and around the Plaza de la Constitución, the massive main square also known as the Zócalo.
Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a stroll through the buzzing downtown area reveals the capital's history from pre-Hispanic to its colonial heritage and its more recent innovative, contemporary edge.
There are many places offering inspired dining as well as local fare and world class hotels and restaurants abound. Much safer now than in the past the city has a lot to offer but precautions should be taken as is the case with most major cities.
