Competing for: Ireland | From: Cork | Age: 47 |
Billy took up riding in Cork, Ireland and began competing at age six because his parents were involved in the sport. His mother Jill and his aunt ran a riding school near Cork. His uncle Kelvin Hitchmough was a leading National Hunt trainer, with an Irish Grand National winner to his name. His aunt Avril was a well known showjumping trainer, and his grandmother officiated on the appeals committee for major shows.
Working as Michael Whitaker’s stable jockey in his youth proved a key opportunity to learn and since then, Billy Twomey has gone from strength to strength. Career highlights include a win at the 2011 Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix in Valencia. Tinka’s Serenade is his favorite horse to ride and his parents are his greatest influence. He describes Global Champions Tour as ‘the very best shows in the world.’
My vision is clear. Only the best for the best.
