Philippe began riding aged ten, he was encouraged by his father, who competed in jumping at Olympic level. His father Marcel competed at three Olympic Games in show jumping, winning gold at the 1976 Games in Montreal, and is also an international level coach. His brother Thierry is a national level jumper, and his uncle Hubert Parot also competed at the Olympic Games in jumping.
His most memorable achievements are two Silver medals in the team event at the European championships, his silver medal in the World Championships and a 2nd at a FEI World Cup Final at Bercy, France.
