The GCL Super Cup Hall of Fame: Legends, Glory, and the Fight for 2024's Crown

Excitement is sky-high for the 2024 GCL Super Cup at the GC Riyadh Playoffs, where fourteen elite teams will clash for ultimate glory in the GCL Super Cup knockout classes. This intense showdown promises unforgettable moments as some of the greatest names in show jumping go head-to-head to claim this year’s prestigious title.

Let’s take a look back at what we have seen since the concept started 7 years ago…

The journey began in 2018 with Madrid in Motion capturing the inaugural title, a victory driven by Marc Houtzager, Maikel van der Vleuten, and Eduardo Alvarez Aznar—who returns this year, more determined than ever to reclaim the throne. The following year, the Shanghai Swans soared to the top, led by the unstoppable Pius Schwizer, Peder Fredricson, and Daniel Deusser. Now Deusser is back, ready to anchor the Swans as they aim for another GCL Super Cup title in Riyadh.

After a pandemic pause, the GCL Super Cup returned in 2021, where the London Knights clinched victory by the slimmest of margins. With the Philippaerts brothers, Nicola and Olivier, alongside Emily Moffitt, they fought off fierce competitors to raise the trophy. And in 2022, the Miami Celtics captured hearts and the cup, led by the brilliant trio of Bertram Allen, Michael G. Duffy, and Eduard Schmitz.

But it was last year that really changed the game…

2023 GCL season Champions Riesenbeck International powered by Kingsland Equestrian stormed the field, establishing themselves as a true powerhouse. With a jaw-dropping performance in Prague, Eoin McMahon, Philipp Weishaupt, and Christian Kukuk also claimed the 2023 GCL Super Cup, to be the first team to ever win the overall season Championship and GCL Super Cup in the same year!

Following their close second-place finish in this year’s championship after the GCL Finals in Rabat, Riesenbeck is heading to Riyadh, hungry to defend their title and prove they are still the team to beat.
